Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses an intense, pulsating beam of light to remove unwanted hair on your body. It is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the USA and is a great option for those who are tired of tweezing and waxing those unwanted hairs.
What you can expect:
- Safe, fast and effective hair removal
- No bumps or ingrown hairs after treatment
- Treatment of large and multiple areas at once
- No downtime or side effects
Which Laser Hair removal system do you use?
At CWC Medical Spa, we are presently using the LYRA hair removal system. This system is considered to be one of the best hair removal lasers with one of the best safety records.
How does laser hair removal work?
During the procedure, the laser beam passes through the skin to the individual hair follicle. The intense light of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth. Laser Hair Reduction is a precise and speedy process. An area such as the upper lip can be treated in less than five minutes, and thanks to the precise nature of the laser, it won’t damage surrounding areas of skin. It is non-invasive and will significantly reduce the hair in the treated areas, often after three sessions.
Is Laser Hair Reduction permanent?
It is impossible to have 100% reduction of hair. The reason being is because, over time, new follicles will grow, resulting in new growth of hair. There are some factors that make it more effective, such as being a person with dark hair and fair skin, which is evidently the most receptive of the treatments. Laser Hair Removal only has a minimal effect on light, gray, blonde or red hair.
How long will I remain free of hair after my Laser Hair Removal treatment?
How long you remain hair free depends on a few factors, including your skin and hair color. For the most part, once the laser destroys a follicle, the hair will never grow back. However, as mentioned above, new follicles can grow, and new hair will sprout. After your initial treatment, you will be hair free for four to eight weeks. After that, hair re-growth will start, and this is when we recommend you return for a second treatment. This will allow you to be hair free for three to six months. If you have regular maintenance appointments when you notice hair re-growth, then you should be able to manage with two to three treatments per year. You will notice that the hair re-growth will slow down, and the hair that re-growths will be softer, lighter and less visible.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Ensure that the area that is being treated has been recently shaved with a hypoallergenic shaving cream, is free of moisturizers, fragrances and makeup, and that the area is of its original color. Be sure to avoid sun tanning and sunbeds for at least two weeks before having a laser treatment. Don’t wax or pluck before you treat the area, as the root needs to be present for the removal to work. Be sure to advise your removal specialist of any medications that you are taking, as there are some types that have side effects.
What happens after my appointment?
The laser will likely irritate your skin a little bit, so you may experience some inflammation, swelling or blistering. Ice compresses will help ease those conditions. You may also notice an effect known as shedding, which is when excess hairs push their way through the follicle. Exfoliation of the area will help alleviate this.
You can return to your regular activities immediately following the procedure, however, it is recommended to avoid heavy sun exposure and you should not use soap on the treated areas until the skin has had a chance to settle.
